Depending on the time of your departure flight, the start date of your tour may be the day prior.  

Start your day with breakfast before embarking on a guided tour of Hanoi’s top attractions. Your first stop will be the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, established in 1070. This beautiful temple complex is dedicated to Confucius and scholars, and it’s a peaceful place to stroll through lush gardens and see ancient Vietnamese architecture. 

Next, visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, which includes the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a solemn place where Vietnam’s most revered leader rests. Nearby, explore the iconic One Pillar Pagoda, one of Vietnam’s most famous landmarks, known for its unique lotus-shaped design.

After, you’ll head to Tran Quoc Pagoda, Hanoi’s oldest Buddhist temple, located on the shores of West Lake. This serene temple offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city and provides beautiful views over the water.

In the afternoon, leave Hanoi behind as you drive through the picturesque countryside to Halong Bay.

Upon arrival at Tuan Chau Island, check into your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure. If you’re looking for a unique experience, you may wish to join an optional dinner cruise on Halong Bay, where you can dine under the stars as you glide through the calm waters.

Today, set out on a private junk boat cruise to explore the stunning beauty of Halong Bay. This UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its towering limestone islands and serene waters. As you cruise through the bay, you’ll visit Dau Go Cave, where Vietnam’s famous General Tran Hung Dao stored wooden stakes during the Mongolian invasion in the 13th century. The cave is filled with fascinating rock formations and stalactites.

Next, visit Thien Cung Cave, often referred to as the “Heavenly Palace Cave” because of its magnificent stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is filled with natural rock formations that resemble intricate sculptures, illuminated by colorful lighting that adds to its magical atmosphere.

Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch on board as you sail through the bay, surrounded by breathtaking limestone formations. After your cruise, you’ll return to Tuan Chau Harbor and drive back to Hanoi.

The evening is free for you to explore on your own or join an optional street food tour, where you’ll have the opportunity to taste some of Hanoi’s best local delicacies.

Enjoy a walk around the Old Quarter in the afternoon and appreciate the local lifestyles as you wind through Hanoi’s streets. You will have a taste of Northern Vietnamese delicacies such as:
Stuffed pancake, banh my, stuffed sticky rice balls, the unique egg coffee and many more.

Enjoy a final free morning in Hanoi before heading to the airport to catch the short flight to Danang.

Upon arrival, you’ll be driven to the charming town of Hoi An, known for its well-preserved Ancient Town and vibrant lantern-lit streets. Check into your hotel, and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Enjoy a leisurely day in Hoi An, a town that’s rich in history and culture. You can explore the Ancient Town, filled with historic buildings, temples, and quaint cafes. Walk along the Thu Bon River, shop for local handicrafts, or relax on the beach just a short drive away.

Alternatively, you can join one of the optional tours. The Golden Bridge tour takes you to Ba Na Hills, where you’ll marvel at the famous Golden Bridge, held up by giant stone hands, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Or, attend the Hoi An Memories show, an open-air performance that showcases the history and culture of the town through music, dance, and stunning visuals.

Optional tour: Golden Bridge Tour

On arrival at the foot of Ba Na Mountain, we’ll travel by cable car up to the Marseille station. Then it’s a short walk to the Golden Bridge which appears to be lifted by two “hands of the Gods”. When you’re on the bridge, you’ll feel like you’re walking on the clouds.
Time for taking photos of the breathtaking view. Afterwards, it’s on to a romantic flower garden – Le Jardin D’Amour. The 9 gardens are 9 stories in 9 unique architectural styles.
Next, it’s time to visit Linh Ung Pagoda to admire its sophisticated architecture and the 27m high Shakyamuni statue.
Finally, we’ll catch the cable car down the hill for the transfer back to Hoi An.

Optional tour: Hoi An Memories Show

As Vietnam’s largest outdoor visual art-show, Hoi An Memories is guaranteed to amaze. Featuring 500 performers and superb choreography, this open-air theatrical extravaganza tells the story of Hoi An throughout its 400 years of history while shining the spotlight on the traditional ao dai costume and the charming beauty of Vietnamese women.
Right in front of your eyes, Hoi An will transform from a small farming village to an international trading port where East meets West.

In the morning, enjoy free time to relax or explore on your own.

This afternoon, take a guided walking tour of Hoi An, a charming town known for its mix of architectural styles, from Chinese temples to French colonial buildings. Visit an old merchant’s house, the bustling Hoi An Market, a local Chinese temple, and the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge, which dates back to the 16th century.

Spend the rest of the afternoon wandering through Hoi An’s narrow streets, lined with lanterns, or enjoy a coffee along the scenic Thu Bon River. The town’s peaceful atmosphere and well-preserved architecture make it a delight to explore on foot.

After breakfast, transfer to Danang airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon to the locals).

Upon arrival, a guide will take you on a half-day city tour, starting with the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral, a stunning example of French colonial architecture. Continue to the historic Saigon Central Post Office, designed by renowned architect Gustave Eiffel. Then, visit the War Remnants Museum, where you’ll learn about Vietnam’s tumultuous history during the Vietnam War.

Finally, visit Ben Thanh Market, a bustling marketplace where you can shop for local handicrafts, souvenirs, and enjoy some delicious street food.

Return to your hotel for check-in, and spend the evening at leisure.

223Discover Saigon’s nightlife on the back of a vintage Vespa scooter.
You’ll be picked up at your hotel and start off your amazing night with some cocktails and appetizers at Café Zoom. Afterwards, enjoy some of Saigon’s best authentic local food, followed by a stop at a Vietnamese-style coffee shop featuring live music. Your perfect evening will be wrapped up at an exciting music bar where local people party.ㅤ

Leave the city behind and head to the Mekong Delta, a vast network of rivers, swamps, and islands. In Ben Tre Province, you’ll board a boat to cruise along the Mekong River, passing by local fishing villages and coconut processing workshops. Learn about the traditional way of life in this fertile region, and visit a family-run workshop where you’ll see how sleeping mats are made.

After lunch at a riverside restaurant, take a relaxing rowing boat ride through the narrow canals lined with water palms. In the afternoon, continue your journey to Chau Doc, a peaceful riverside town near the Cambodian border.

After breakfast, you’ll travel to the Vietnam-Cambodia border at Moc Bai/Bavet, where you’ll cross into Cambodia. Once on the Cambodian side, you’ll be transferred to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s bustling capital city.

Upon arrival in Siem Reap, check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening at leisure to unwind or explore this vibrant city, the gateway to the famous Angkor temples.

Airline Selection: We book the best available airlines for your journey, which may include a mix of full-service and low-cost carriers. Specific airline requests can be made at the time of purchase. This includes upgrades to your preferred carrier, premium economy or business class cabins or specific seats. Whilst we will try our best, not all requests can be confirmed.    

Flight Conditions: Flights may not be direct and could involve a maximum of two transits. 

Ticketing Information: Once issued, tickets are non-refundable. Changes are subject to airline rules, airline change fees, and an AVG Travels change fee of $250 per person.

Passenger Details: Please ensure all traveller names are as per passports. This includes all middle names. Errors may incur a name change fee of $150 plus airline charges, or require the purchase of a new ticket.

Flight Schedule Changes: Any changes or cancellations to airline schedules are outside our control. We recommend staying updated with airline schedules before departure. Additional expenses for extended transits or alternative arrangements are the traveller’s responsibility.

Internal Airfares: Local flights included in your itinerary may utilise low-cost carriers without meals or entertainment. Checked baggage is included; any additional baggage fees are payable at check-in.

Booking Considerations: If travelling with others on separate bookings, we may not be able to guarantee all flights are the same due to availability.

Luggage and Fees: You are responsible for your luggage at all times. Excess baggage fees, if incurred, are payable directly to the airline. All tickets will include 20 kg checked baggage per person, plus 7 kg of hand luggage. We recommend travelling with a max 20kg per person due to restrictions on internal flights (where applicable), as well as coach and train transportation. Please note, you will be responsible for handling your luggage at all times as the services of porters are not included.

No-Show Policy: Missing your flight may result in fees including a no-show fee, airline reissue fee, and possible new ticket purchase. AVG Travels charges a $250 admin fee for re-booking assistance.

Price Adjustments: Prices are final at the time of ticketing. Any subsequent changes may result in additional costs due to factors beyond our control, such as currency fluctuations or airline surcharges.

Physical Requirements
A reasonable level of fitness is required. Participants should be comfortable navigating stairs, boarding and disembarking from the coach, and walking reasonable distances, typically around 2 km per day or more. Please disclose any physical conditions at the time of booking to assess suitability for the tour.

Tipping
A friendly reminder that tipping is not included in your package. Please be advised that tipping for tour guides, drivers and bellmen are required and will be collected by your travel consultant 7 days before you depart. A gratuity of $10 per person/day can make a big difference to locals employed in the tourism industry as they have done an impeccable job to serve you through your holiday.

Visa & Passport information

It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum of six months from the intended date of return and must have more than 2 blank pages. Visa conditions are subject to change at short notice, so it is the responsibility of the traveller to consult with the relevant consulates to ensure they have the appropriate visa for entry to the countries being visited.

Vietnam
All Australian passport holders require a visa to enter Vietnam. You should apply for your electronic visa (e-Visa) online at least 30 days prior to departure.  Please check details at https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/home

AVG Travels can assist you with the visa process. Please speak to our reservations team for assistance. The visa and handling cost is $160 per person for a single entry visa.(max 30 day stay)

Cambodia
All Australian passport holders require a visa to enter Cambodia. You can apply for an e-Visa online or get a visa on arrival at Siem Reap International Airport, in which case you will need to pay your visa fee in USD cash. If arriving in Cambodia on an upstream Mekong River cruise (travelling from Vietnam to Cambodia) you can obtain the visa on board and your crew will assist with this process on board.
