Today, you will depart from your home to Vietnam’s capital – Hanoi. (HAN) On arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, you will be met at the airports and transferred to your hotel for check-in.

Meal: In-flight meals.
Accommodation: Chalcedony Hotel 4* or similar

Remark:
– If you depart from Queenstown/Christchurch, you might need to stay overnight in Auckland or Sydney before connecting flight to Vietnam.
– We use Air New Zealand/Qantas Airways from New Zealand to Sydney and connect to Vietnam Airlines 

After breakfast, embark on the scenic drive to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its breathtaking limestone islands and emerald waters. Board your cruise junk and indulge in a gourmet seafood lunch as you sail through this natural wonderland. In the afternoon, cruise around some of Halong’s many islands. Stop at an island cove with a sheltered white-sand beach and maybe take a dip in the warm waters of the Gulf of Tonkin (weather permitting). Pass the night on your junk, lulled to sleep by the gentle rocking of calm waters.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Accommodation: Overnight on Cruise.

Wake to a tranquil morning with a Tai Chi session or simply savor the sunrise from the deck with a cup of tea or coffee. Explore nearby islands by rowboat and marvel at Halong Bay’s surreal landscapes. After brunch, return to Hanoi and settle back into your hotel.

Enjoy a walk around the Old Quarter in the afternoon and appreciate the local lifestyles as you wind through Hanoi’s streets. You will have a taste of Northern Vietnamese delicacies such as:
Stuffed pancake, banh my, stuffed sticky rice balls, the unique egg coffee and many more.

A big day of exploration awaits today on a city tour of Hanoi. Explore attractions such as the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, Ho Chi Minh Complex (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda) and Tran Quoc Pagoda – one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for the short flight to Da Nang.

On arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to Hoi An. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Enjoy a walking tour of atmospheric Hoi An today, visiting some of this historic cities popular highlights.

The Old Town of Hoi An is a labyrinth of well-preserved buildings adorned with intricate wooden carvings and colorful silk lanterns. Its iconic Japanese Covered Bridge, built in the 16th century, symbolizes the town’s historical connections and remains a popular landmark. Next up, visit the Chinese Temple, also known as the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation, a cultural gem that reflects the town’s historical ties with China.

Finish your tour at the Phung Hung Old House, a well-preserved example of a traditional Vietnamese merchant’s residence, offering insight into the lifestyle and architecture of Hoi An’s prosperous past.

This afternoon, you’re free to explore more of Hoi An by yourself  or join an optional tour.

Optional tour: Golden Bridge Tour (Lunch Included)

On arrival at the foot of Ba Na Mountain, we’ll travel by cable car up to the Marseille station. Then it’s a short walk to the Golden Bridge which appears to be lifted by two “hands of the Gods”. When you’re on the bridge, you’ll feel like you’re walking on the clouds.
Time for taking photos of the breathtaking view. Afterwards, it’s on to a romantic flower garden – Le Jardin D’Amour. The 9 gardens are 9 stories in 9 unique architectural styles.
Next, it’s time to visit Linh Ung Pagoda to admire its sophisticated architecture and the 27m high Shakyamuni statue.
Finally, we’ll catch the cable car down the hill for the transfer back to Hoi An.

Enjoy a day at leisure in Hoi An, exploring the town’s charm or selecting an optional tour.

You’ll be picked up at your hotel for a 40-kilometre drive to My Son Sanctuary, a World
Heritage Site. On arrival, get ready to be absolutely astounded by the abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples constructed by the kings of the Champa era.
After, we’ll return to Hoi An for a cruise down the Thu Bon River.  Enjoy the peaceful and scenic views before stopping off at the famous traditional, Thanh Ha Pottery Village where you’ll get to see the villagers’ daily life.

Optional tour: Hoi An Memories Show

As Vietnam’s largest outdoor visual art-show, Hoi An Memories is guaranteed to sweep you off reality. Featuring 500 performers with superb choreography, this open-air theatrical extravaganza tells a story about the quintessence of Hoi An throughout 400 years of history while shining the spotlight on Ao Dai and the hidden charming beauty of Vietnamese women. Right in front of your eyes, Hoi An will transform from a small farming village to an international trading port where East meets West. A spot in the VIP seat zone ensures a full view of the 1000-meter road stage featuring nearby mountains and sodden river flood, which will leave you an unforgettable experience.

Fly to vibrant Ho Chi Minh City and embark on a city tour, visiting landmarks like Notre Dame Cathedral, a photo op at the Post Office, The war Remnant Museum before diving right into the colourful Ben Thanh Market, one of Chi Minh’s liveliest areas.

While most tourists stay in one spot for the night, why not enjoy dinner while cruising down the Saigon River on a huge wooden barge? Observe the picturesque lights from nearby

Explore Ho Chi Minh City at your own pace or opt for an optional tour to the Mekong to enjoy an unforgettable experience on the mighty Mekong River.

You will realise quickly why cruising along the Mekong Delta on a boat should be on everyone’s bucket list when travelling to Vietnam.
It is called “The Rice Bowl of Vietnam” because it offers a wide selection of cultural activities including local handcraft and coconut pressing workshops with villagers, cycling through lush rice fields along the water, as well as some down-time chilling in a hammock.
You will also be treated to an authentic lunch.
<!–Mekong Delta is known as “The Rice Bowl of Vietnam” and offers a real experience to the tropical culture of locals. This trip will take you to visit local workshops, a handicraft village and get a unique experience with local activities. Be ready to sail through the coconut trees and take a nap on a hammock in a garden filled with bird chirps and fresh breeze.
You will be picked up at your hotel then take a 1.5-hour transfer to Ben Tre River. Embark on a cruise to brickwork, a coconut processing workshop and a local village making sleep mattresses along the Mekong Delta. Continue taking a motor cart (xe loi) or cycling through the green rice fields and vegetable plains. After lunch, get back to Hung Vuong Pier for returning to Saigon.

Optional tour: Vespa Adventure – Saigon after Dark Tour

Discover Saigon’s nightlife on the back of a vintage Vespa scooter. You will be picked up at your hotel and start off your amazing night with some cocktail and appetizer at Café Zoom. Afterwards, enjoy some Saigon’s best authentic local food, followed by a stop at a Vietnamese-style coffee shop featuring live music. Your perfect evening will be wrapped up at an exciting music bar where local people party.Discover Saigon’s nightlife on the back of a vintage Vespa scooter. You will be picked up at your hotel and start off your amazing night with some cocktail and appetizer at Café Zoom. Afterwards, enjoy some Saigon’s best authentic local food, followed by a stop at a Vietnamese-style coffee shop featuring live music. Your perfect evening will be wrapped up at an exciting music bar where local people party.

After breakfast, check out your hotel and then head to Cu Chi Tunnels, a byzantine maze of underground passages, chambers and booby traps used by both the Viet Minh and the Viet Cong during the Vietnam-US war. The tunnel system had become legendary during the 1960s as a strategic military base with underground community life.

Later this afternoon, continue to the airport for your scheduled flight home.

AVG Travels offers you a pay in “3 Instalment Payment Plan” as follows

  • First payment: $300 per person deposit due at time of booking
  • Second payment: $2,000 per person due 7 days after the initial booking.
  • Final payment: Balance due 120 days before your departure date.

Please note if you book within 120 days of departure, your final payment will be due within 7 days of travel.

AVG Travels offers a 7-day cooling off offer. Please refer to the “Flexible Cancellation” section.

If you change your mind within 7 days of making your booking, you can request a full refund of your initial deposit. Please note, after 7 days, our standard terms and conditions apply.

Airline Selection: We book the best available airlines for your journey, which may include a mix of full-service and low-cost carriers. Specific airline requests can be made at the time of purchase. This includes upgrades to your preferred carrier, premium economy or business class cabins or specific seats. Whilst we will try our best, not all requests can be confirmed.    

Flight Conditions: Flights may not be direct and could involve a maximum of two transits. 

Ticketing Information: Once issued, tickets are non-refundable. Changes are subject to airline rules, airline change fees, and an Asia Vacations Group change fee of $250 per person.

Passenger Details: Please ensure all traveller names are as per passports. This includes all middle names. Errors may incur a name change fee of $150 plus airline charges, or require the purchase of a new ticket.

Flight Schedule Changes: Any changes or cancellations to airline schedules are outside our control. We recommend staying updated with airline schedules before departure. Additional expenses for extended transits or alternative arrangements are the traveller’s responsibility.

Internal Airfares: Local flights included in your itinerary may utilise low-cost carriers without meals or entertainment. Checked baggage is included; any additional baggage fees are payable at check-in.

Booking Considerations: If travelling with others on separate bookings, we may not be able to guarantee all flights are the same due to availability.

Luggage and Fees: You are responsible for your luggage at all times. Excess baggage fees, if incurred, are payable directly to the airline. All tickets will include 20 kg checked baggage per person, plus 7 kg of hand luggage. We recommend travelling with a max 20kg per person due to restrictions on internal flights (where applicable), as well as coach and train transportation. Please note, you will be responsible for handling your luggage at all times as the services of porters are not included.

No-Show Policy: Missing your flight may result in fees including a no-show fee, airline reissue fee, and possible new ticket purchase. AVG Travels charges a $250 admin fee for re-booking assistance.

Price Adjustments: Prices are final at the time of ticketing. Any subsequent changes may result in additional costs due to factors beyond our control, such as currency fluctuations or airline surcharges.

  • Cabin Preferences – These include upgrading to premium economy or business class
  • Extensions (start and end cities must remain the same) – You may request to extend your stay pre or post tour.

  • Seat Requests – If you would like to request particular seating. However please note, not all airlines allow the selection of pre-purchased seat arrangements.

Physical Requirements
A reasonable level of fitness is required but it’s more about spending time on your feet rather than covering large distances. You’ll be getting on and off coaches and boats, walking around the sights and climbing some steps.

Tipping
A friendly reminder that tipping, (whilst not compulsory) is not included in your package. If you would like to show appreciation for tour guides, drivers, and bellmen, a suggested tip of $10 per person per day is welcome and can make a big difference to locals employed in the tourism industry. Tipping will be collected on day 1 of your tour. This helps support local staff who work hard to make your experience memorable.

The accommodation listed is subject to change. Any changes will be of an equal or higher standard. Bedding configurations (double or twin) are requests only. All efforts will be made to meet your preferences however any changes are beyond our control.

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is recommended to protect yourself against the unexpected. In addition to the support that a policy may provide, you may be asked to present a copy of your travel insurance documentation while traveling.

Visa & Passport information
It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum of six months from the intended date of return and must have more than 2 blank pages. Visa conditions are subject to change at short notice, so it is the responsibility of the traveller to consult with the relevant consulates to ensure they have the appropriate visa for entry to the countries being visited.

Vietnam
New Zealanders must have a valid visa to enter Viet Nam. In advance of your travel, ensure that the visa issued matches the details of your passport, as any errors, including incorrect spelling, may result in you being refused entry.

AVG Travels can assist you with the visa process. Please speak to our reservations team for assistance. The visa and handling cost is $160 per person for a single entry visa.(max 30 day stay)
